With the Summer Holidays nearly over and the kids heading back to school, September can often feel like the start of a New Year – perhaps we have all been programmed with that ‘Back to School’ mentality adults and kids alike.

We are all feeling refreshed after our holidays making September a great month to get back to business. In our Autumn Boost Series we tackle critical business areas, including cash, sales and marketing offering some great ideas to give your small business a post summer boost.  Let’s make the coming months of 2017 not just a success, but also lay the ground work for a profitable 2018.  Our Autumn Boost Series will encourage the following:

Evaluate What Your Business Has Achieved

September is a great time to stop and evaluate how the first 8 months of the year have gone. Review what your business has achieved and also areas where it did not achieve.  With 4 months left in the year there is plenty of time to improve, update or simply keep going.

Update Your Sales Plan

Sales is an ever evolving process. Take some time to consider what you have learnt about work you have both one and lost then update your sales plan/process with what you have discovered.  Incorporating your experiences from the first 8 months of the year is a simple but invaluable way of enhancing your sales technique for the rest of 2017 and beyond.

Evaluate Your Spending

When you have been in business for a while it is easy to get distracted and stop reviewing the day to day costs.  A quick review of your overheads with your accountant could reveal areas where you are over spending or even need to spend more to either save some money as we move towards the end of 2017 or bolster your sales process to secure revenue into 2018.

Refresh Business Targets

Commonly businesses will set targets ready for 1 January.  Take some time to evaluate how your business has performed against these targets and amend them depending on what else has happened in the year, what you have learned and any new prospects.

Look to the Future

Don’t just focus on the results and targets you set for 2017, September is a perfect time to begin to think about the ground work you need to lay for 2018 to achieve your longer term goals.  This may begin with a review and update of your business plan, running a report of closed business for 2018 or a management meeting to discuss where the business is going.
